BACKGROUND

We are a low-profile, value-oriented holding vehicle modeled after Berkshire Hathaway. The founders/investment team is comprised of value investors from Apollo Global Management (~$80bn private equity group) and Viking Global Investors (~$50bn hedge fund). We have various portfolio companies or ‘platforms’ (also known as rollups, aggregations, or buy-and-builds). Each platform is capitalized with a long-term equity base and has the sole mandate of compounding cash flows for the long term, primarily through M&A. We have a broad mandate and look for opportunities across industries, geographies and the capital structure, although our primary focus is on rollups.

We are seeking a full-time Business Development Associate to assist with our sourcing and origination efforts. Main responsibilities are to initiate and maintain relationships with business brokers/investment bankers via cold-calling and various outbound sales initiatives in order to expand our deal pipeline and generate 5 Qualified Leads per week.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

An initial preview of the responsibilities & tasks are as follows (there will be more, but this will give you a general sense of the roles & responsibilities):

  • Connect with a minimum of 30 business brokers/bankers per week (‘Connect’ defined as >3 minutes call per week), including a mix of (i) cold-calling and (ii) responding to brokers’ request for introductory calls.

  • Act as a point of contact for incoming calls and emails from brokers to address any inquiries.

  • Be an expert on Tucker’s Farm firm background, investment criteria, process, track records, to establish credibility and articulate our value proposition with brokers.

  • Keep the CRM system updated and accurate with lead information, highly organized notes and status updates.

  • Maintain close relationships with brokers via follow-up calls and emails in a timely manner and at a regular cadence.

IMPORTANT NOTE

At Tucker’s Farm, we hire for attributes and potential over specific experience or formal education. We’re looking for hungry, go-getter individuals who are excellent on the phone and have a drive to succeed in a career in finance & investing. Your experience could vary widely, and we encourage applications from diverse backgrounds.

KEY ATTRIBUTES WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Excellent verbal communication skills, especially on the phone

  • Hunger and drive to succeed in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to thrive without extensive structure

  • Strong project management skills (i.e., superb at to-do-lists, meticulous execution managing multiple workstreams and correspondence with brokers)

  • Highly organized, exceptional attention to detail, and solutions-oriented

  • Comfort with performance-based compensation

YOUR BACKGROUND MIGHT LOOK LIKE

  • A recent graduate with 2+ years of work experience and a proven track record in B2B or B2C sales

  • A current outbound sales professional looking to transition into finance

  • Someone with a demonstrable track record of success in a cell-center environment

  • In all cases, we are looking for high performance in a previous sales-oriented role and will reference your ranking/performance with your prior employer

COMPENSATION STRUCTURE

  • Base salary range of $60,000+, depending on experience

  • On-target earnings (OTE) of up to $150,000 based on performance, and calculated as follows:

  • 0.2% of EBITDA sourced and closed

  • $300 per Qualified Lead (specific definition to be provided, but generally defined as any opportunity with $2m+ EBITDA)

  • Target of 5 Qualified Leads per week x 50 weeks per year
