Staff Associate-Federal Relations, Community and Gov Relations

>> My name is Kyle Miller. I work here for the University of Pittsburgh in the Office of Community and Governmental Relations as a Staff Associate. So, the Office of Community and Governmental Relations is actually kind of a dual pround office. Its technically two separate offices, it's the Office of Community Relations and the Office of Governmental Relations. So, what we do on those both ends is basically advocacy, we advocate on behalf of the university. On the community end, it's advocating to Oakland residents and City of Pittsburgh residents as well. It's a lot of planning philanthropy events and other volunteer projects for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. And then on the governmental end, it's working with the City Government, the County Government, as well as the State and Federal Governments with a variety of different issues, research funding, state appropriations. A typical day for me, I get to work, try to have like 20 minutes for me to get that coffee in there just because I don't function without it. But, then from there it really changes every day its nothing - it's a lot of long term projects that are months and months at a time but the day to day is very different and things that will come across my desk will be federal memos. It's called the Federal Registrar which is part of which is the office of printing in the U.S. Government and they print out all of the memos from every department, United States Government every day, so a lot of that is going through those and determining what's important to Pitt and distributing those to the appropriate staff and faculty. That's a classic example of everyday. A lot of research, especially when it comes to state funding options it can really vary, it varies a lot.
